Student Teen Employment Preparation (S.T.E.P.)
Student – Teen Employment Preparation (STEP) is a team based job readiness program designed to provide youth with hands on work experience, life skills and career development training and academic planning. Work focuses on addressing community needs. Team projects in the past have included: environmental restoration, urban agriculture, organizing community building events, creating public service announcements, graffiti removal, painting public murals, and improving facades of local businesses. Participants will develop good work habits, strong communication and leadership skills, as well as learn a sound cultural awareness of the environment in their communities.
This program runs for four weeks, which this summer means July 11 through August 19. Youth will work four days a week, Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday, this is determined by which project they are placed on. Upon the completion of 132 hours youth earn a $599 stipend.
